Twelve-year-old Laura lives in the Swiss hills on the family farm, surrounded by animals and nature. She is fascinated by a local legend about a maiden who is supposed to be held captive in the caves close to where she lives. But she wouldn’t dare go check out the story on her own, and this summer there are no other kids around. She whiles away the lonely days birdwatching, helping out on the farm and faithfully entrusting everything to her diary. This is  the only place she can express her loneliness, concerns about her weight, dreams and nightmares. Then a boy from the city comes to work on the farm. Will he be a new friend and take her to the famous cave where no one else dares to go? This sensitive, respectful film tells Laura’s story through significant details: the all-seeing eye of a horse, rutting turkeys and rubber boots in muddy puddles. All of these aspects of Laura’s life are cleverly intercut with fictional elements that are hardly distinguishable from what is real.

Mira, a young Swiss in search of her roots, travels to Iraqi Kurdistan, where she is confronted with terrorism, war crimes and street justice, but also with love. The film depicts two of life’s tragedies: not having our wishes fulfilled and having them fulfilled. A journey to the breathtaking landscapes of Kurdistan, but also into the political reality of a region full of conflicts. We hear about it daily, but the film brings us a totally new perspective.

The new fiction-movie UNSER KIND (OUR CHILD) by Luki Frieden (1000 OCEANS, NOVEMBER) finished its shooting in December 2013. Carac Film from Bern Switzerland was the producer, and they will bring the film to studio Zone 33 for Sound Editing / Sound Design in spring 2014. Rolf Buettikofer of Zone 33 was the boom-operator on the film set.

After contributing to the great success of Mano Khalil’s DER IMKER (THE BEEKEEPER), Zone 33 was editing the soundtrack for DER GOALIE BIN IG by Sabine Boss. The film is based on Pedro Lenz’s first novel entitled in English “Naw Much of a Talker“. In short, this was a stimulating summer. And that’s how we like it!

Tech Talk : The new ICON D-Command mixing desk from Pro Tools HDX, installed several months ago, produces excellent results, with its 256 tracks grouped in packs of 24 channeled through the ICON system. For major documentary projects – like DER IMKER – 70 output channels were used; the 5.1 editing was done through the DCP format.
